No change for a change
Published by Nick Hall on 9 March 2010.I think it's a tough time to be a client. Business environment aside, it seems the more that technology changes things, the more it relies on them being able to do just about everything themselves.
Well fear not, dear reader. For while the tactics are continually changing and evolving, there are some things that have not changed - just yet anyway. Here's my list. Do with it what you will. And if you feel I have missed something, please comment.
1.) You still have to give people a reason to choose you over someone else. If it is price alone, you have a problem.
2.) You have to understand that not everyone can be your customer.
3.) You have to treat the customers you have like gold. If you do, they will thank you in many different ways.
4.) You have to consider all the new ways in which you can market yourself, but temper your decisions by understanding what is right for you, and what is not.
5.) Your brand is not what you say it is, it is what other people say it is.
6.) Some things cannot be projected, measured, and placed into a bar chart. Get over it.
7.) As communication continues to increase in speed, remember the slower, more intimate interactions are what really count.
8.) Understand what it is you are really good at, and do more of that.
9.) Try to remember what it is you are passionate about. It is likely resulting in the answer to question number 8.
10.) People still respond more to remarkable than mediocre. If you cannot tell the difference, I am happy to oblige.
